Siding FAQs

Everything Houston Homeowners Need to Know About HardiePlank® Siding

At Champion Forest Exteriors, we understand that investing in new siding is a big decision. You want to be sure you’re choosing the right product, the right contractor, and the right time. To make your research easier, we’ve put together answers to the most frequently asked questions about HardiePlank® siding and our siding replacement services.

What kind of siding do you install?

We exclusively install HardiePlank® fiber cement siding from James Hardie. It’s the most durable, weather-resistant, and low-maintenance siding available—perfect for Houston’s climate. We do not install vinyl, engineered wood, or aluminum siding, because none of those materials offer the same long-term value and protection as HardiePlank.

What makes HardiePlank® better than vinyl or wood siding?

HardiePlank® siding is engineered to outperform both vinyl and wood in several ways:
It won’t melt, warp, or become brittle in Houston’s heat (unlike vinyl).
It won’t rot, swell, or attract termites (unlike wood and engineered wood).
It’s non-combustible, making it safer for your home.
It offers a more natural, upscale appearance that holds up for decades.
The ColorPlus® finish resists fading, chipping, and peeling, which is common with wood or painted siding.
HardiePlank is simply a smarter investment—stronger, longer lasting, and far more resistant to the elements.

How long does HardiePlank® siding last?

HardiePlank® siding is backed by a 30-year, non-prorated warranty, and with proper installation and minimal maintenance, it can last 40 years or more. Many homes we sided decades ago are still in fantastic shape.

Does HardiePlank® require painting?

If you choose ColorPlus® Technology, no—it’s factory-finished with a baked-on color that resists UV fading, chipping, and peeling for years longer than field-applied paint. If you select primed siding, it will require painting, but the material holds paint better and longer than wood.

Is fiber cement siding expensive?

HardiePlank® siding may cost more up front than vinyl or engineered wood, but it delivers far better value in the long run. Its resistance to weather, pests, and fire—combined with its low maintenance—means fewer repairs, longer life, and better resale value. You save money over time and enjoy peace of mind knowing your home is protected.

What styles and colors are available?

HardiePlank® comes in a wide variety of styles to complement any home, including:
Smooth or Cedarmill® (wood-grain) textures
Traditional lap siding
Board-and-batten vertical siding
Shingle and shake options for accents
You can choose from dozens of pre-finished ColorPlus® colors, or opt for a primed version to be painted any color you like. Whether your style is farmhouse, colonial, or contemporary, there’s a HardiePlank® look for you.

Is HardiePlank® good for the Houston climate?

Absolutely. In fact, HardiePlank® is engineered specifically for our region through the HardieZone® System. Our area (Hurricane-prone, high humidity, extreme heat) falls under HZ10, which means the siding is formulated to resist:
Warping and cracking from heat
Mold and moisture damage
Wind and hail impact
UV rays that fade lesser materials
Simply put: HardiePlank was made for Houston homes.

Will fiber cement siding add value to my home?

Yes—fiber cement siding consistently ranks among the top remodeling projects for ROI (Return on Investment). Homebuyers recognize and trust the James Hardie brand, and the siding’s performance, longevity, and visual appeal can significantly increase your home’s market value.

What is the siding installation process like?

Our team handles everything from start to finish:
Free Consultation – We inspect your current siding, answer your questions, and recommend a solution.
Clear Quote – You receive a detailed proposal with everything included—no hidden fees.
Expert Installation – Our trained crew (no subcontractors) installs your siding with precision and care.
Final Walkthrough – We inspect every detail with you and leave your yard spotless.

Do you offer siding for new construction or just replacements?

We specialize in siding replacement for existing homes. If you’re building a custom home and want to use HardiePlank®, we may be able to help depending on the project timeline and scope.

Can I install HardiePlank® myself?

We strongly recommend against DIY siding installation. HardiePlank® is a precision product that must be installed according to James Hardie’s specifications to ensure performance and maintain the warranty. Our team is a James Hardie Preferred Remodeler, which means we meet strict installation standards.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. We offer financing options to make your siding replacement project more manageable. Whether you want to pay over time or take advantage of special promotions, we can help you find a plan that fits your budget.

How long does a typical siding replacement take?

Most siding projects are completed in about 5–10 working days, depending on the size of your home and any custom details involved. We’ll give you a clear timeline upfront so you know exactly what to expect.

Will you remove my old siding?

Yes. We remove and properly dispose of your old siding as part of the project. We also inspect the wall sheathing underneath and repair any damage before installing your new HardiePlank® siding.
